The Somali Head of State is in the country for a one-day state visit.

Briefing reporters, Tanzania’s Samia Suluhu Hassan said her government is ready to provide training to Somalis in defense and other areas, including health and education.

Apart from security, Dr. Samia said the two countries have embarked on a journey to strengthen cooperation in the health and education sectors.

On his part, the President of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, thanked the Tanzanian government for standing by them during difficult times.

He mentioned that the arms embargo against Somalia has been lifted due to his country’s good track record in reducing its national debt.

Mohamud’s visit to Tanzania marks his first visit to the country and the first visit since Somalia joined the East African Community (EAC).

He was among seven heads of state who attended the 60th-anniversary celebration of the Union held in Dar es Salaam.
