Mogadishu (HOL) — Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre appointed Major General Sulub Ahmed Firin as the new Deputy Minister for the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation on Tuesday. This move is part of the government's ongoing reshuffle within the administration.
Firin, who currently serves as the Commander of the Somali Police Force, is expected to transition to his new role, though a replacement for his police post has yet to be named. With an extensive background in national security, including his service as the Commander of the Somali Darawish Forces and State Minister for Security, Firin brings a wealth of security experience to the ministry.
Firin's appointment comes barely a day after he was promoted Firin from Brigadier General to Major General by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.
Firin's leadership in the Somali Police Force and his background in security make him well-positioned to address challenges in the transport sector, including safety regulations and operational inefficiencies. His appointment comes as Somalia continues efforts to modernize its transport and aviation infrastructure, which is critical to national recovery and growth.
