Heavily armed militia members patrol Somalia's Mudug region following recent clashes between rival clans.

Mogadishu (HOL) — At least 15 people were killed and more than 20 others injured in a renewed bout of clan fighting early Tuesday in the Buq village, near Towfiiq, in Somalia’s Mudug region, according to local sources.

The clash, which erupted in the early morning hours, involved armed militias from two rival clans. Despite previous attempts at peace agreements, the conflict between the two groups has reignited multiple times in recent months. Community elders have been struggling to mediate between the factions.

The fighting persisted for several hours, and tensions remained high in the area. Local sources report that both sides continue to hold their positions. Elders have called on the Galmudug regional administration to step in and prevent further violence.

This latest clash adds to a growing pattern of violence in the Mudug and neighbouring Galgaduud regions, where clan conflicts have escalated over the past few months. Several clans in the area have engaged in recurring skirmishes despite various peace deals being brokered. According to analysts, the failure to secure lasting peace in the region stems from deep-seated historical grievances, a lack of consistent government authority, and resource competition.

The recurring violence has led to significant displacement of civilians and loss of life, raising concerns among local leaders and humanitarian organizations about the worsening humanitarian situation.
