Mogadishu (HOL) — A record-breaking number of nearly 4,000 students participated in the National University Admission Test for Somali National University this year, marking the largest turnout in the university's history.
The milestone was celebrated at the exam's opening ceremony, where Minister of Education Farah Sheikh Abdulqadir reflected on how far the university has come since its re-establishment just ten years ago.
He pointed out that the 3,924 students sitting for this year's test reflect a resurgence in educational interest and the growing ambition of Somali youth to pursue higher education.
"The students must prepare themselves for an international stage," Minister Abdulqadir stressed, urging students to embrace the challenges ahead and prepare for an interconnected academic environment. He revealed that the university is expanding its faculty with specialists in languages and technical subjects, ensuring students are equipped with the tools needed to succeed in an increasingly interconnected world.
Prof. Hassan Osman Ga'al, the university's president, shared his vision for the institution's future, one that includes making education accessible to all Somali students, regardless of their financial circumstances.
