Emergency vehicles and law enforcement officers respond to an active shooter situation at the intersection of Nicollet Avenue and 22nd Street in South Minneapolis on Thursday evening. Multiple victims, including police officers and civilians, have been reported. Roads are closed and transit routes are being rerouted as authorities work to secure the area.
MINNEAPOLIS (HOL) – A shooting in South Minneapolis has left multiple victims, including police officers and civilians. Law enforcement and emergency responders are currently securing the area. The active shooter situation began Thursday evening around 5:15 p.m. in the 2200 block of Blaisdell Avenue in the Whittier neighborhood.
Eyewitnesses reported seeing heavily armed officers closing off streets and surrounding an apartment complex in the area. The Minnesota State Patrol and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) have joined the Minneapolis Police Department at the scene to assist in managing the situation.
Amid the chaos, reports indicate a bystander was shot, and another person was found with a gunshot wound to the stomach inside a vehicle near the scene. Additionally, dispatchers have relayed that there may be two more people shot inside the building at 22xx Blaisdell Avenue.
Authorities are urging residents to avoid the area as they work to bring the situation under control. The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, and the investigation is ongoing.
