Somali Prime Minister visits Kismayo following major victory against al-Shabab

    Kismayo (HOL) - Somali Prime Minister Hamse Abdi Barre arrived in Kismayo on Tuesday to commend the Somali National Army for a major military success against al-Shabab militants in the Lower Jubba region.

    Jubbaland regional leader Ahmed Madobe and other officials welcomed the delegation at the airport in Kismayo.

    The Prime Minister's Office stated, "Prime Minister Hamse Abdi Barre went to Jubbaland to celebrate the historic victory of the National Army in their recent operations against al-Shabab."

    Two weeks ago, Somali government forces and Jubbaland's Darawish troops killed over 80 al-Shabab militants in foiled attacks in the Lower Jubba region.

    Prime Minister Barre is expected to tour the areas recently liberated from al-Shabab control, such as Buulo Xaaji, Baar Sanguuni, and Harboole.

    The federal government stated that the visit underscores its commitment to national security, particularly eradicating terrorist fighters.
