Hargeisa (HOL) - Somaliland Minister of Planning, Ahmed Mohamed Diriye Toorno, has accused the Wadani Political Party of spreading misinformation and undermining the government's reputation.
Speaking in Hargeisa on Sunday, Minister Toorno claimed that the Wadani party has been disseminating false reports suggesting that the government had labelled Borama town as unsafe.
"I listened to the Wadani vice presidential candidate who falsely stated that the government declared Borama unpeaceful. I also saw that the Mogadishu government is saying that an organization was barred from Borame," Toorno said, questioning the coincidence of these narratives.
Reports indicate that one international agency had postponed a retreat in Borama, originally scheduled for August 1, citing security concerns, per directives from the Somaliland administration.
The Wadani Party has yet to respond to these allegations. The controversy highlights the ongoing political tensions in Somaliland, where government and opposition parties often clash over governance and security issues.
