Dhusamareb (HOL) - Somali military forces, supported by local militia, thwarted an al-Shabab attack in the Shabelow village of the Mudug region, killing at least 21 militants, officials reported on Saturday.
The government-issued statement reported that the group initiated the attack with explosions followed by gunfire on a military base in the village. Additionally, the statement confirmed no reported casualties on the government forces' side.
The statement declared, "Somali forces, with the assistance of the local forces, heroically thwarted the militants' plan, resulting in the death of more than 21 militants in the battle and the destruction of 4 vehicles."
Ongoing operations against militants have been a consistent effort in the southern areas of the Mudug region over the past few months.
