Mogadishu (HOL) - A massive fire broke out in Bakara, Mogadishu's largest market, on Friday morning as people prepare for the upcoming Eid al-Fitr celebration in Mogadishu.
According to traders, the fire started in the gold section and quickly spread to other parts of the market, causing extensive destruction. The cause of the fire remains unclear.
The latest reports indicate that firefighting vehicles from Hormuud Company and the administration of Banadir region are currently working to extinguish the fire.
The number of casualties is still unknown.
Last month, on March 10, a massive fire engulfed a section of Mogadishu's biggest market, Bakara, claiming the life of at least one person and destroying several stores selling electronics, as well as various other goods such as coffee, shoes, and clothes, authorities reported.
Frequent fires have destroyed several main markets in Somalia, and the cause has largely been electrical faults.
