Hargeisa (HOL) - The Speaker of the Somaliland House of Representatives, Abdirisaaq Khalif Ahmed, commended President Muse Bihi Abdi's decision to withdraw the army from Las Anod town to prevent further clashes."The advice I returned to the president was that the people were sitting down to discuss their issue, and we were not expecting anything that would cause a problem for the country and the people."
Abdirisaaq Khalif, who recently visited Las Anod, returned to Hargeisa and underlined that he briefed the President on the town's situation and political activity. He hoped the ongoing SSC conference in Las Anod would not cause Somaliland any significant problems.
The speaker added that the government was always open to dialogue without conditions and that issues should be viewed positively, adding that the Somaliland government was willing to talk to traditional leaders on matters that concern their future.
On Saturday, the speaker of the Somaliland House of Elders, Saleban Mohamud Aden, said that his House is working to resolve the issues in Las Anod and has been working with Somaliland President Muse Bihi Abdi to resolve the conflict in Las Anod recently.
The traditional leaders from the Sool, Sanaag and Ayn regions gathered in Las Anod over the weekend to discuss the future of their territory.
The supreme traditional clan chief of the Sool, Sanaag, and Ayn regions, Garad Jama Garad Ali, opened the high-level meeting, which was attended by the majority of the elders from the three regions.
