Mahas (HOL) - Former governor of Hiiraan region and current interim president of Hiiraan State Ali Jeyte, Hirshabelle Vice President Yusuf Ahmed Hagar, and lawmakers displayed army vehicles and the most significant forces prepared for a massive anti-al Shabab operation in Mahas district on Saturday.
Ali Jeyte Osman, who took charge of the operations, stated that local clan militia forces, Hirshabelle regional troops, and federal army forces would liberate areas still under al-Shabab control in Hiraan, Galgaduud, and Middle Shabelle regions.
"We have already defeated al-Shabaab, and now we are completing our efforts to liberate the country," he declared.
Hirshabelle Vice President Yusuf Ahmed Hagar emphasized that the worst enemy facing Hiiraan and the entire country is the al-Shabab militants, who burned down water wells during the drought.
"For those who argue that the Hawadle army forces should not venture beyond Hawadale territory, I must remind them that al-Shabaab is the enemy, and they will not be shown mercy. No one can guarantee our safety even if we stay within our territory," he added.
Politicians from the Hiiraan region, who previously had political differences, have now united in intensifying military operations under the leadership of President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud's federal government.
