After earning his degree from Somalia National University's School of Medicine in 1981, Dr. Mahdi dedicated his life to healthcare. He initially engaged in a tuberculosis project in Somalia, sponsored by Finland, which sparked his interest in respiratory diseases. This interest later led him to spend two years in Finland, deepening his specialization.

Dr. Mahdi, respected across Somalia and particularly within the Galmudug administration, had been at the helm of the Galgaduud General Hospital for numerous years. He was part of an exclusive group of Somali physicians specializing in respiratory diseases.

In the wake of the government's collapse in 1991, he relocated to Finland, where he met his wife, a Finnish national. He stayed in Finland until 1998 when he was called upon to help rejuvenate the healthcare system in Galgudud. With the combined efforts of the local community, Dr. Mahdi significantly improved the state of the hospital.

Over a career that spanned over two decades, Dr. Mahdi was at the forefront of healthcare in the Galgaduud region. He led the General Hospital in the Dhusamareb District, which he had founded, until his premature passing.

He leaves behind his wife and their son.
