Mogadishu (HOL) -Somalia's Armed Forces Commander, General Odawaa Yusuf Rage, announced that government forces conducted an operation in the Eel Qabobe area, killing a foreign fighter who was fighting alongside the Al-Shabaab group, and capturing several others alive.
The attack occurred approximately 30 kilometres from the Harardhere district in the Mudug region, and the army was aware of the Al-Shabaab group's activities. According to Commander Odawaa Yusuf Rage, the foreign fighters who were killed or captured were loading and transporting weapons and other materials that they had brought from Al-Shabaab boats.
"The operation was carried out with caution and precision, and there was no harm to the army, the locals, or those in close proximity. The army was highly vigilant and prepared," explained General Odawaa Yusuf Rage.
Moreover, the army destroyed vehicles prepared by the group with explosives intended to harm the people of Somalia. "These vehicles were cargo trucks brought in by boat and loaded with explosives such as TNT and other dangerous materials. They wanted to harm the Somali people, but the army burned the trucks and cargo they were carrying," said General Odawaa Yusuf Rage, Armed Forces Commander.
Al-Shabaab is a militant insurgency group linked to al-Qaeda, which aims to overthrow Somalia's internationally-recognized government.
