Dhusamareb (HOL) - Escalating tensions and armed clashes in the Afbarwako area of the Mudug region have resulted in a rising death toll over the past few hours, marking the latest chapter in a deadly communal feud.
The conflict, involving two clan militias wielding various types of weapons, pitted forces from the Galmudug and Puntland administrations against each other.
Preliminary reports indicate that the violent exchanges have claimed eight individuals' lives and injured five others. The casualties reportedly include civilians caught in the crossfire near their homes.
Locals say they fear a resurgence of clashes between the two tribal militias, forecasting a grim likelihood of continued unrest.
Security agencies responsible for maintaining peace in the Mudug region, under the purview of the Galmudug administration, have yet to issue a statement or detailed update on the volatile situation.
