Mogadishu (HOL) - Somali Prime Minister Hamsa Abdi Barre attended a meeting in Mogadishu's Heliwa district on Sunday afternoon to strengthen cooperation between security agencies and the Banadir region administration.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister emphasized the government's special focus on the security of the capital, Mogadishu. He cited the gathering in Heliwa district as evidence of increased awareness and community cooperation, which had been challenging to achieve for a long time.

Heliwa, located in the southeastern Banaadir region, has long faced insecurity since al-Shabaab ousted Mogadishu in 2011. The district has been described as a place where al-Shabaab is strong.

Prime Minister Hamsa highlighted the positive impact of cooperation between security agencies and the citizens of Mogadishu on the city's security. As a result, all districts are now safer to visit.

The meeting was attended by ministers, the Governor of Banadir region, MPs, and representatives from various sectors of society who collaborate with the capital's security agencies to root out the remnants of al-Shabaab hiding in their homes.

Since August, government forces have been making significant progress against the militants, launching a major Somali-led campaign against al-Shabaab, marking the most effective offensive against the terror group in the past 15 years.
