Mogadishu (HOL) - Police in Mogadishu apprehended a government tax collection officer who brutally murdered Abubakar Mohamed Nourani, a prominent 65-year-old resident of Mogadishu's Hamarweyne district, on Tuesday.
An eyewitness told the media that Nourani was killed for just five thousand Somali shillings (0.2 US Dollars).
The deceased's brother said the soldier deliberately Nourani because he could not pay. He demanded that authorities arrest the officer and deliver his family justice.
"Today at 1:20 p.m., the Banadir Regional Police arrested a soldier from the local security forces, who killed Abubakar Mohamed Nourani, 65 years old, in the Hamarweyne," said Somali Police Spokesman Sadiq Adan Ali.
The spokesman also added that the accused man would be arraigned at the Banadir Regional Court in the coming days.
Meanwhile, in the Bal'ad district of Middle Shabelle, a rickshaw driver named Ali Taliye was killed by a government soldier at the Garasdeele checkpoint. Authorities also arrested the rogue soldier in that case.
