Police make arrest in murder of a businessman in Mogadishu

Saturday August 12, 2023

Mogadishu (HOL) - Somali police forces have apprehended a suspected al-Shabab militant reportedly responsible for killing a businessman, who was the brother of South West Minister of Justice and former governor of the Lower Shabelle region, Ibrahim Aden Ali Najah.

The attack occurred on Friday when gunmen targeted Isak Aden Ali shortly after leaving a mosque in the Taleh neighbourhood of Mogadishu's Hodan district. The suspect was shot and wounded during his attempt to escape.

"On 11/08/2023 at approximately 1:30 pm, the General Division Command of the Banadir Region, specifically the Hodan district police station, apprehended the conspirator whose photograph had been circulated on social media. This man was responsible for killing the Somali businessman and will be brought to justice," stated the command in a released statement.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack. However, it is common for al-Shabab militants to carry out such assaults against people in business, government, and security officials.
