Garowe (HOL) - At least three suspects have been arrested in connection with the gang rape and murder of 16-year-old Nimo Abdiwali Osman in the northeastern Puntland region of Somalia.
Osman was abducted from her home in the Darussalam area of the Galdogob district by men led by her husband on April 19, 2023. Her father, Abdiwali Osman, told local media that his daughter was severely stabbed nearly 60 times and died of her injuries.
Three of the perpetrators involved in the gang rape are currently in prison in Galkayo, while the police are still pursuing the other suspects. The victim's father is demanding justice for his daughter's death.
It is the third similar case in Puntland in the last few years. In 2019, 12-year-old Aisha Ilyas was raped and murdered in Galkayo, and two men were convicted for the crime and publicly executed by a firing squad in Bosaso. Aisha's family welcomed the execution of the two men.
Also, in 2019, Hodan Shanlayste was brutally raped and murdered in Garowe. However, the court in Garowe stated that the prosecution did not provide sufficient evidence to convict the six suspects.
