Somali military repels al Shabab attack on an army base in Galmudug

    Mogadishu (HOL) - Somalia's military says it successfully repelled an attack by al-Shabab militants on a military base in the central Galgaduud region. The attack occurred in the village of Masagawa in the central state of Galmudug on Saturday morning.

    According to military officials who spoke to Somali government-run media, the army inflicted heavy casualties on the attackers. Despite this, al-Shabab claimed it had taken complete control of Masagawa village following the attack and had seized military vehicles and weapons during the assault.

    The attack by al-Shabab came just a day after a planned operation by the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) Forces, supported by international allies, resulted in the killing of at least 20 al-Shabaab militants in the Lower Shabelle region on Thursday night. In a statement, NISA announced that the operation occurred between the Ugunji and Mubarak areas, where the militants had gathered in a forested region.
