Mogadishu (HOL) - A mortar attack targeted the home of Somali Minister of Petroleum and MP Abdirizak Omar Mohamed in Mogadishu on Friday night. The minister's residence is located near the Somali presidential palace.
Eyewitnesses confirmed that the attack killed two bodyguards of the Somali Petroleum Minister and injured two others.
Although the Somali government has successfully driven Al-Shabaab out of vast territories, the capital remains insecure, with recurring mortar attacks in Mogadishu.
This incident highlights the fragile security situation in Mogadishu, as Al-Shabaab continues to threaten the city's safety while the government works to strengthen security measures.
The attack coincided with the Somali government's announcement of a
disarmament campaign in Mogadishu, aimed at collecting various types of weapons.
The Deputy Minister of Security stated that the government had prohibited the transportation of various weapons and military vehicles without a specific mission within Mogadishu.
