Washington DC (HOL) - Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud held a meeting with the Somali diaspora community in the United States on Saturday.
President Mohamud told audience members about the economic opportunities emerging in Somalia, the plans to build government infrastructure and the fighting against Al Shabaab.
He added that the Federal government of Somalia attaches great importance to economic growth and investment in the country, job creation for the youth and reconciliation of the Somali people.
The President stated that the Somali diaspora contributions could positively impact the country's development as he hoped they would continue investing in it.
Mohamud added that his government's ethos of "Somalia at peace with itself and the world" is a vital part of its diplomacy policy.
America has one of the largest Somali diaspora communities in the western hemisphere.
Since 2009, the United States has spent more than $2 billion on security assistance to the Somali military, including its elite Danab Special Commando Brigade.
