Mogadishu (HOL) - A military court in Mogadishu executed three al-Shabab men convicted of attacks that killed at least 15 people between 2018 to 2020 around Somalia’s capital Mogadishu.

Hassan Ali Moallim Barre was convicted for detonating the car bomb in Wadajir market on Nov 2018 that killed 12 people.

Nur Ibrahim Mahad-Alle was found guilty of delivering an IED that killed Mahaas deputy mayor Isak Keerow Adanin in 2019 and for a 2020 grenade attack that killed two in Weydow village.

The men were executed by firing squad at the General Kahiye Police Academy in Mogadishu on Sunday morning.

Hassan Ali Moallim Barre (Hassan Boy) joined al Shabab in Mubarak district in Lower Shabelle region in 2018 after his uncle Sayid Ali Adan Nur aka (Istiin Boy) convinced him to join the group.

Hassan’s job was primarily to lay IEDs and other explosives.

The court sentenced Hassan Ali Moallim Barre (Hassan Boy) to death on October 14, 2019.

Isak Keerow Adan joined al Shabab in the Dinsoor district in 2014. He led a group of militants who set fire to 14 trucks transporting food in December 2017. The court convicted him of throwing nine hand grenades and participating in assassinations in Mogadishu.

He killed police officer Farah Abdulle Arif at Ba’ad market in Mogadishu on May 5, 2020. He also killed a military soldier, Ahmed Omar Alasow, in Garasbaley village on January 21, 2020.

The court convicted Isak Keerow to death on July 29, 2020.

Nur Ibrahim Mahad-Alle was a member of a special police unit in Mogadishu but was removed from the police for drug abuse. He told the court that he lost his government-issued weapon. He then traveled to Beledweyne town. During his stay in the Hiiraan region, he joined al Shabab and killed Mahaas deputy mayor Rashid Osman Abdi.

The court confirmed that Mahaas mayor Abdirahman Sheikh Elmi Awale, Ali Ahmed Gure, aka Ali Qoyane and Nur Ibrahim Mahad-Alle had worked together to kill the deputy mayor.

Authorities believe the three men were related.

Rashid Osman was killed by a landmine hidden in his typical seating area. Nur Ibrahim Mahad-Alle was paid $200 to kill the deputy mayor.

The court sentenced Nur Ibrahim to death, while Ali Ahmed Gure, aka Ali Qoyane, who is a fugitive, was also sentenced to death on October 30, 2019. Abdirahman Sheikh Elmi Awale was convicted of life imprisonment.
