Wednesday May 4, 2022

Mogadishu (HOL) - Somalia’s bicameral lawmakers will hold a joint session at the Villa Hargeisa on Wednesday to elect the organizing committee for the presidential election, which is expected to occur this month.

The Joint Presidential Election Commission, which will consist of MPs from both lower and upper houses, will be expected today to announce the presidential election schedule and the requirements for candidates.

On Tuesday, the lower house of parliament speaker, Sheikh Adan Mohamed Nur Madobe, presided over a security meeting attended by the army commanders ahead of the joint session.

During the meeting, the speaker warned the army commanders not to be involved in politics and to follow his orders regarding elections security until the country’s president is elected.
