Somali citizens in Sudan exempt from residence and work permits

Mogadishu (HOL) - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Somalia has announced that Somali citizens living in Sudan are exempt from residence and work permits.

The decision, which came into effect ten days ago, came as a result of an agreement between Somalia and Sudan to cooperate to serve their citizens in the two countries equally, which included dropping fees associated with migration.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation thanked the Government of Sudan for its support to the Government of Somalia and for this opportunity for Somalis in Sudan.

The Ministry estimates are that there are 7,000 students and 300 Somali families living in Sudan. Their documentation process has been described as a significant obstacle to living in Sudan.
