Mogadishu (HOL) - Al Shabab militants reportedly recaptured Wabho, a small strategic town in Somalia's central region of Galgadud, after Somali military forces and local clan militia forces withdrew from the town on Saturday night.
Major Ismail Abdimaalik of the Federal Government Forces stated that the withdrawal from Wabho town was ordered by the Somali government forces' high command, but he did not elaborate on the official reason.
On Wednesday, Somali forces liberated Wahbo town, which had been under al-Shabab control for 15 years. However, local people said that the joint forces have returned to Mahaas district in the Hiraan region, where they had army bases before liberating Wahbo.
The militants have increased their attacks since President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud took office in May and vowed an "all-out war" against al-Shabab.
Earlier last week, the Somali government said its forces killed 200 al-Shabab militants in a security operation in central regions.
