Hiiraan governor arrives in Mogadishu to accelerate offensive against al Shabab

    Mogadishu (HOL) - Governor of Hiiraan region, Ali Jeyte Osman, and members of the federal parliament arrived in Mogadishu on Sunday to accelerate the ongoing offensive against al Shabab in central Somalia.

    The governor and his delegation will meet with federal authorities in the capital to discuss the completion of anti-al-Shabab terrorist operations.

    Hirshabelle regional politician Mohamed Abduqadir Mohamed, federal MP Mohamed Abdullahi Buralle, and Hirshabelle MP Guhad Abdulle Jimale were among the governor's delegation.

    According to security analysts, during the last three months of security operations, Somali forces inflicted massive casualties on al Shabab militants.

    Somali National Army, backed by local militia groups, said they killed at least 100 al-Shabab militants during heavy fighting in Hiiraan's El-Hareri village on Thursday.

    Abdullahi Ali Anod, a spokesman for the defence ministry, told reporters in Mogadishu that 100 al-Shabab fighters were killed during the "intense operation."
