Election chair rubbishes claims that Fahad Yasin will join parliament

    Mogadishu (HOL) - The Federal Electoral Implementation Team (FEIT) chairman Muse Gelle Yusuf denied reports that the commission was considering certifying HOP 086, which was won by former spy chief Fahad Yasin Haji Dahir in Beledweyne earlier this year before being nullified by the election commission for irregularities.

    In an interview with BBC Somali on Monday, the chairman stated that the committee had no work to perform and that their mandate ended after the legislative elections. In response to reports regarding seat HOP 086, Muse Gelle said the rumours were false and that another representative would be elected to the seat by clan delegates.

    Fahad Yasin was elected to the federal parliament in Beledweyne earlier this year, but the national elections committee suspended the results immediately, citing mass electoral fraud.

    On Sunday, Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble disbanded the Federal Electoral Implementation Team (FEIT) and the State Election Implementation Team (SEIT) following the conclusion of the elections.

    He added that the committees nullified seats would be managed by the National Independent Election Commission (NIEC) and will go through the same election process as the 11th parliament.
