PHOTOS: Record number of candidates register for presidential elections

    Mogadishu (HOL) - 32 candidates have registered their candidacy for the Somali presidency, with 22 of the presidential hopefuls - including President Farmajo -  registering on Monday‎.

    It is the highest number of presidential candidates in Somalia's history.

    The candidates are Dr. Sa'id Isa Mohamed, Abdirahman Mohamed Abdi, Ahmed Duaale Geelle Haaf, Mahad Ahmed Diriye, Muqtar Mohamed Sayid, Abdi Mohamed Abdi, Jamal Ahmed Ibrahim, Mohamed Dahir Aweys, Ridwan Hirsi Mohamed, Omar Abdulkadir Ahmed Fiqi, Numan Sheikh Omar, Gabriel Ibrahim Abdulle, Hussein Abdi Nurow, Abdihadir Mohamed Mohamed Jahweyne, Abdihadir Sheikh Ali Bakkadadi, Abdullahi Ahmed Ali Gees, Abdi Adan Hoosow, Abdi Mohamed Bakkadadi, Abukar Adan Abdulle and Fowsia Yusuf Haji Adan.

    On Sunday, ten candidates put forth their candidacy on the first day of registration. 

    They are Sheikh Sheikh Sheikh Ahmed, Dahir Mohamud Geelle, Hasan Ali Abdirahman, Abdulkadir Osoble Ali, Bashir Haji Ali (Jamaal), Abdi Ali Hassan, Abdi Nur Sheikh Mohamed, Abdi Shakur Warsame, Abdikarim Hussein Guled, Abdi Ma'alin Ahmed Ablaal. ‎

    Each candidate paid a $40,000 registration fee that the electoral commission collected. So far, $1,280,000 was raised from registrations.

    The election commission said that the deadline for registering the candidacy is Tuesday at 4:00 PM local time.

    The presidential election will be held Sunday, May 15, at the Afisioni Tent in Mogadishu.
