Somali President opens National Consultative Council meeting in Mogadishu

    Mogadishu (HOL) - Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud presided over the National Consultative Council meeting on Saturday, which was attended by the country's five regional state leaders, the Prime Minister and the mayor of Mogadishu.

    The two-day conference will focus on priorities for the government, significantly strengthening cooperation at the Federal and State levels and reconciliation.

    The Federal Government of Somalia and the State Governments will discuss the finalization of the constitution, strengthening inter-governmental relations to pave the way for a stable Somalia at peace with itself, strengthening national security, building a strong judiciary, and responding to the drought and preparing for the country's elections.

    It is the second time President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has met with the regional state leaders since he was elected by parliament last month.

    Hassan Sheikh Mohamud was inaugurated as the 10th president of Somalia Thursday in a colourful ceremony attended by leaders of Kenya, Ethiopia, and Djibouti. Mohamud is expected to appoint his Prime Minister in the coming days.
