Saturday June 11, 2022

Mogadishu (HOL) - At least two people were killed and five others wounded late Friday in two explosions in Badbaado camp for internally displaced persons and Tareedisho neighbourhood on the outskirts of Mogadishu.

The first attack was a landmine explosion that targeted a vehicle carrying government soldiers in the Tareedisho neighbourhood. In contrast, according to the residents, the second explosion occurred at a tea shop in Badbaado camp for internally displaced persons.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack, but al-Shabab is usually behind such attacks.

The attacks occurred a day after the country's new President, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, was inaugurated in Mogadishu.  Al Shabaab fighters fired at least six mortar bombs at Mogadishu's international airport hours before the new President's inauguration, which was held at the Afisiyoni tent inside the airport.

The mortar shells landed near the airport at around 2:00 AM, with no casualties reported.
