Mogadishu (HOL) - Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly
and UAE State Minister for Foreign Affairs Sheikh Shakhboot Bin Nahyan Al
Nahyan arrived in Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia on Thursday to attend the
inauguration ceremony of the President-elect Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.
Today's ceremony will take place at the Afisiyoni tent
inside the airport, amid Somali police forces imposed a full curfew in Mogadishu, covering
both traffic and people until Thursday at 5:00 AM.
The UAE and Egypt want to have a strong relationship with
the new Somali government as relations with the former government of Mohamed
Abdullahi Farmajo were slow.
So far, representatives from Djibouti, Ethiopia, Kenya,
Uganda, Turkey, and Bahrain have already landed in Somalia's capital.
Mohamud, who was voted out of power in 2017, was re-elected
by Somalia's parliament on 15 May in Mogadishu, defeating the outgoing
president Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo in indirect elections.
Somalia has not held a popular election since 1964.
