Mogadishu (HOL) - Former Somali minister of transport and civil aviation Mohamed Abdullahi Salat (Omaar) has called on the president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and his upcoming Prime Minister to reduce the number of lawmakers in the cabinet.

"There were parliamentarians who were also cabinet ministers for five years. You do not know what they have done. They were solely there to protect the government, so I recommend reducing ministers from parliament to a modest number," former Minister Omar remarked.

Omar added that there were roughly 70 ministers during his period in office, including an inexperienced and intangible bunch chosen from parliament because they were feared as MPs.

Last year Mohamed Abdullahi Salat Omaar, who served under Prime Ministers Hassan Ali Khaire, and Mohamed Hussein Roble, resigned from his position as minister of labour, citing personal reasons after Roble swapped the Transport Minister with the Labour minister.
