Parliamentary speaker meets with Saudi Ambassador to Somalia

    Mogadishu (HOL) - The Speaker of Somalia's Lower House of Parliament, Adan Mohamed Nur (Madobe), met with the Ambassador of Saudi Arabia, Amb. Ahmed Bin Mohamed at his office on Tuesday.

    According to state media, Almowalla commended Madobe for his work as the parliamentary speaker and conveyed greetings to the speaker on behalf of the Saudi Chamber of Commerce.

    The wealthy Gulf nation's activity in Somalia has been energized in recent weeks with the victory of Hassan Sheikh Mohamud as Somalia's president in mid-May. Sources say President Mohamud is eager to rectify the strain on the relationship caused by his predecessor, Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo, who built a strong alliance with Qatar despite officially maintaining a position of neutrality during the 2017 Gulf Crisis.

    In January 2021, the Gulf monarchies brokered a deal to resolve the crisis and end the blockade of Qatar.
