Somali President meets USAID administrator in Mogadishu

    Mogadishu (HOL) – Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud received on Sunday a delegation led by U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Administrator Samantha Power in Mogadishu.

    President Mohamud commanded the USAID's long-standing support to Somalia and its people and emphasized his government's strong determination to address the ongoing humanitarian and drought crisis, intensify the fight against terrorist groups and prioritize political stability, democratization and reconciliation.

    Villa Somalia said in a statement that the administrator and the President also focused on continued support for humanitarian response and Somalia state state-building process to deepen federalism and propel democratization. "Providing sustained support for economic growth initiatives that facilitate the capitalization of key productive sectors, fishery, livestock and agriculture, dramatically shifts Somalia's overdependence on aid."

    According to the statement, they also discussed encouraging foreign direct investment (FDI) in key sectors of the economy, such as energy provision and water management.

    Samantha Power and Mohamud also discussed supporting Somalia's strategic shift from humanitarian to development assistance to transition away from cyclical humanitarian development towards sustainable development.
