Jowhar (HOL) - Multiple casualties were reported on Sunday when a car bomb targeted a popular hotel frequented by Hirshabelle authorities in Jowhar town.
The car bomb hit the entrance of Hotel Nur Dob, wounding several people, including minister of women Aasho Khalif Haji, minister of health Abdi Moalim and former deputy speaker of Hirshabelle regional parliament Anab Ahmed Isse.
Al Shabaab claimed responsibility for the explosion, which was one of the largest explosions in the town. Images from the scene show that the blast had affected nearby buildings.
Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre condemned the explosion and promised to help the people injured in the blast.
