Kismayo (HOL) - The Jubbaland regional election commission has released the list of candidates contesting 13 seats in the Jubbaland constituency on Monday.
The Jubbaland administration is the fifth regional administration to announce new elections since the National Consultative Assembly meeting in Mogadishu concluded last week. Somaliland, Galmudug, Puntland and Southwest State are all expected to hold elections for federal parliament this week.The latest candidacy list in Jubaland leaves two of the 13 seats to be contested by women exclusively. Somalia’s government has promised a 30% quota of the incoming parliament to be reserved by women, but it is falling short of the target.
The election of the seats in the House of the People now seems to be in full swing by Somalia’s regional administrations. The PM-led NCC has agreed to conclude the election of the House of the People by February 25.
