Senior commander killed in Galmudug clash with Al-Sh

Mogadishu (HOL) - The recent fighting in Adakibir between government forces and Al-Shabab fighters have claimed the life of another senior Somali military officer on Monday.

Col. Abdulkadir Mohamed Artay, the operational commander of sector 21, died from injuries he sustained on Sunday during the deadly clash.

The commander of Somalia’s 13th battalion, Major Ali M Soade, and three other soldiers were killed in the fighting. Several senior officers were also reportedly seriously injured.

Somalia’s military said that it repulsed an Al-Shabab attack in Adakibir area, about 60 km east of Adado. It added that close to two dozen militants were killed.

No civilians were reported killed in the fighting.

Last week, Al-Shabaab fighters attempted to launch a major offensive in Ba'do, near Adakibir, where they encountered strong resistance from Ba'do residents.
