General Hud says Hirshabelle forces responsible for violence

Beledweyne (HOL) The leader of the Hiiraan Salvation Council, General Abukar Haji Warsame Hud, said that Hirshabelle's forces were responsible for the fighting between his fighters and the regional government outside Beledweyne forces on Sunday afternoon.

He added that he and his supporters are opposed to the regional Hirshabelle administration and that the government has used force and repression against Beledweyne residents. General Hud said that he rejected talks and agreements with the regional administration and pointed out that his Hiiraan Salvation Council aims to establish an independent administration called Hiiraan State.

"There is no such thing as an administration in Hirshabelle. Like the coercive federal government that established the Hirshabelle administration, it is not something we can accept. We are called Hiiraan. We have protested against the atrocities committed against us, and we want to establish a separate administration for Hiiraan State," said General Hud.

Heavy fighting was reported on Sunday in Qowlad, 12 km northeast of Beledweyne, between Hirshabelle soldiers and fighters and under the command of Colonel Nur Dheere, a militia commander allied to the Hiiraan Salvation Council. There were casualties reported on both sides.
