Puntland's elections chairman Guled Salah resigns

GAROWE (HOL) - The head of the Transitional Puntland Electoral Commission (TPEC), Guled Salah, has resigned under unclear circumstances.

Salah, who has been at the helm of the electoral body for about two and half years, announced Sunday that he was exiting the position.

"I would like to thank all those who have provided support and assistance to the Electoral Commission in general and me in particular during my tenure. I am especially grateful to the President and all government officials, political parties, civil society organizations, the people of Puntland and friends of the international community, " Salah said.

The former electoral boss leaves as Puntland prepares for state-wide local council elections in the first quarter of this year.

Salah led the commission in delivering the much-acclaimed person-one-vote elections last year in Puntland.
