Monday December 12, 2022

Mogadishu (HOL) - Somalia's Lower House speaker, Sheikh Adan Mohamed Nur Madobe, met with British Ambassador Kate Foster at his office in Mogadishu on Sunday.

The Speaker and the ambassador discussed topics ranging from support for the development of Somalia's Federal Parliament and Southwest state's reconciliation meeting announced by Speaker Adan Madobe, which will take place in Baidoa, the capital of the Bay region.

"Pleasure to meet Aadan Madobe again today to hear his proposal for reconciliation in SWS and priorities as Speaker. We discussed the vital importance of peace and stability in SWS and the importance of Parliament in progressing vital legislation," Kate Foster said.

The Speaker of the People's Assembly, Sheikh Adan Madobe, commended the British government's support to the Somali government.

The scheduled reconciliation meeting was welcomed by the Ministry of Interior, Federal Affairs, and Reconciliation, as was the office of the President of South West Somalia.

The federal government intends to intensify its offensive against al Shabab in South West state, where the militants control several major towns.

Sheikh Adan Mohamed Nur Madobe has been working to secure international support for the reconciliation conference for the South West state of Somalia.
