Five civilians injured in landmine blast near Kismayo

Saturday August 27, 2022

Kismaayo (HOL) - At least five civilians were injured after a car they were travelling in was hit by a landmine in Yakhaluul, a small village near Kismayo, which lies 500Km south of Mogadishu.

According to eyewitnesses, the car was en route to Kismayo, and the three victims were transported to a local hospital on Saturday.

Security forces who reached the scene conducted operations, but officials did not offer any further comment on the incident.

No group claimed responsibility for the blast, but the militant insurgent group al Shabaab usually targets government and AU troops with landmines and IEDs in many parts of Jubbaland areas, especially in border towns.

Earlier this month, four people were killed and 11 others wounded by bomb blasts near the southern coastal town of Kismayo.

One of the bomb blasts targeted a minibus carrying civilians in the village of Buulo-haji on the outskirts of Kismayo, the administrative capital of the southern Somali state of Jubaland, resulting in multiple casualties.
