Mogadishu (HOL) - Armed robbers brutally stabbed a recent secondary school graduate to death on the outskirts of Mogadishu on Tuesday, the same day the Ministry of Education published her name among the students who successfully passed the national secondary school examination.
Hibo Khasim Mohamed was killed in Elasha Biyaha, about 15 km south of Mogadishu.
Mohamed’s mother, Fa'iso Mohamed Abukar, told media that she sent the daughter to the market to buy dinner but was brought in a body bag.
"The men stabbed her four times on her way home and left the knives in her body," the mother said.
She demanded that the Somali authorities apprehend the men responsible for her daughter's violent murder.
For Hibo’s family, the day began with cause for celebration upon hearing that she had passed her national exam. However, as the sun set, a dark cloud was cast over their home when they learned that Hibo had been murdered.
Killings of civilians have increased in recent weeks, especially around the capital Mogadishu. However, the police have not publicly commented on the uptick in violent murders, typically during robberies.
