HUNSo partners with Premier Bank to make Islamic pilgrimage more affordable

Friday April 1, 2022

Mogadishu (HOL) - Hajj, Umrah Network Somalia (HUNSo) and Premier Bank have partnered to create Haleel Service, an innovative and convenient payment plan that will assist Somalis in making the Islamic pilgrimage to Mecca. The joint-venture was marked by a launch event in Mogadishu last Friday.

The service is aimed at customers planning to perform Umrah or Hajj but cannot afford to pay for it at once. By providing access to interest-free financial loans and a straightforward payment system, Haleel Service allows customers to break down payments into installments.

Haleel Service - available during the Umrah months of the Hijri calendar, which begins in Muḥarram and ends in Ramadan of the Islamic calendar - is the first of its kind in Somalia.

Speaking at the launch of the Haleel Service, Ahmednur Mohamed Abdi, Head of Public Relations at Premier Bank, explained that customers would pay at least 30 percent of the total value of the package upfront and pay the remaining balance in installments over the course of a year.

"Premier Bank is pleased to be able to assist our clients in taking advantage of this golden opportunity. Anyone with a Somali passport or identity card, an employment card, proof of income, and financial security or guarantors can apply for a bank loan".

The Head of Operations at Haleel Service, Yunus Osman Ahmed, said the service is designed to be accessible and would help anyone with financial resources pay for Hajj and Umrah.

"We are delighted to inform Somalis that the Haleel Service will be available starting today. Haleel Service fulfills the dream of parents and families who want to visit Allah's house. As we all know, every alive and healthy Somali wishes to perform Haj and Umrah, and we have made it easy for everyone to do so," Yunus says.

HUNSo's chairperson, Sheikh Abdinafi Moalim Hashi, said that he was glad that their partnership launched Haleel Service ahead of the Holy Month of Ramadan.

"It is reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Umrah in Ramadan is equivalent to Hajj or Hajj with me (in reward)." As a result, now is the ideal time to engage in such valuable worship. We have also expanded this service in light of the COVID-19 epidemic, which has hampered Hajj and Umrah performance for two years, and the holy month of Ramadan is coming soon; you will reap more rewards," Sheikh Abdinafi states.

Somalia's Minister of Endowments and Religious Affairs, Omar Ali Roble, said that his ministry's policy is to back any services that encourage, support, and facilitate access to the Two Holy Mosques for Somalis.

This service is available at participating Premier Bank's branches in Mogadishu and Haleel Service agents; for more information, don't hesitate to contact Haleel Service on WhatsApp: +252 61 5545061.
