Ikran's mother rejects courts findings into her daughters death

Monday November 22, 2021

Mogadishu (HOL) - The family of Ikraan Tahlil Farah have denounced the findings of a report that exonerated top members of Somali's intelligence apparatus in the disappearance and killing of her daughter, describing the report as unfair and a coverup.

Ikraan's mother, Qaali Mohamud Guhad, told the media that the justice they were expecting from the commission of inquiry had been abused and that there had been irregularities in the commission.

On Monday, General Abdullahi Bulle Kamey, a member of the investigative committee and the Armed Forces Court chief prosecutor, said the investigation found no evidence linking NISA to her disappearance and murder.

Mohamud accused President Farmajo of interfering in the case and said the reason for the investigation was to acquit the accused.

"This is being done to appease the people who are seeking protection and who have oppressed us," she said.

She said she would not give up on her daughter and that there was no doubt that her daughter was in NISA.

The commission of inquiry said that during the investigation, no evidence emerged that Ikraan Tahliil Farah was in the custody of NISA officials.

Ikraan Tahlil went missing on June 26 after her family said she received a call from her superiors to report to the NISA HQ. She was last seen getting into the back of a vehicle near her home.

Somali intelligence said that she had "fallen into the hands of Al-Shabaab," but the militant insurgent group which consistently attacks soft and hard government targets has denied that they were involved.
