MOGADISHU (HOL) - Somali military has said it killed 15 Al-Shabaab militants in Luuq town in Gedo region Sunday following heavy fighting.
A senior military commander told the Somali National Army Radio that the soldiers fended off an attack on its base by the militants, killing 15 of them.
The soldiers received reinforcements from other SNA units in Bohol Bashir on the outskirts of the town.
Al-Shabaab, however, claimed to have briefly seized the base.
The base reportedly had few soldiers after the Federal Government transferred some to Bula Hawo and Dolo towns which border Kenya, following tensions there last year.
There was no immediate comment from local authorities on the fighting.
