Mogadishu (HOL) - Somalia's PM, Mohamed Hussein Roble, met with AMISOM Police Commissioner, Somali Police Commissioner and the Chairman of the Northern Regional Electoral Commission in Somaliland on Sunday to discuss the security preparations ahead of next week's Senate election for the Northern Regions.
Prime Minister Roble has instructed the various commanders of the Somali Police Force and AMISOM to expedite security operations for the Upper House elections in Somaliland.
Candidates for the upper house seats in the northern regions of Somaliland are scheduled to deliver their speeches tomorrow, with elections planned for the upper house elections in Somaliland scheduled for the next day.
Divisions among two factions in the Somaliland caucus led to the delay for the Northern Region senate election. The PM mediated a deal between Deputy PM Mahdi Guled and Senate speaker Abdi Hashi earlier this month, ending the bitter dispute.
Eleven senators will be elected from the northern regions.
