MOGADISHU (HOL) - A section of the Bulo Burte Airport in Hiiraan region was Sunday morning destroyed in a bomb attack by the militant group Al-Shabaab.
Sources said the aviation facility which was set to be launched soon following completion of works was destroyed by a landmine. It was however not clear if the landmine had been planted in the facility earlier.
Pictures from the scene show the waiting bay of the airport destroyed with the whole place filled with rubble. MPs from the area among them Godah Barre and Mohamud Benebenne condemned the attack and called for upgraded security at the facility.
At least two people were killed and one other injured in the Sunday morning incident. According to a post by Benebenne on Facebook, the incident was the second one.
Al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for the attack but there was no immediate comment from authorities in the region.
