ADDIS ABABA (HOL) - Somali Foreign Affairs Minister Abdirizak Mohamed Friday held talks with AU Peace and Security Commissioner Bankole Adeoye amid a fall out over a recent AU report on Somalia.
Mohamed said in a tweet that he also argued during an AU Peace and Security Council meeting that 'support for Somalia should be based and aligned' to its priorities. An independent assessment by the Africa Union on an exit strategy for Amisom released early this month called for a hybrid AU-UN force to take over from Amisom in 2022.
The multidimensional force, the report posited, should be fully financed by the UN Security Council to deal with the question of funding uncertainty which currently faces Amisom.
Somalia however dismissed the report. Government spokesperson Mohamed Moalimuu said upon release of the report that the Federal Government does not agree with the outcome and pledged a statement.
There has been no word yet from the Federal Government on its reasons for rejection of the report.
