Ex-Al-Shabaab deputy Mukhtar Robow receives $7,000 monthly stipend-Somali government

MOGADISHU (HOL)-  Former Al-Shabaab deputy leader Mukhtar Robow receives a $7,000 monthly stipend and is currently pursuing a masters degree, the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) has said contracting reports of ill-health.

NISA acting director Yasin Farey said in a letter to Internal security minister Abdullahi Nur who had sought a report on the former Al-Shabaab senior official that Robow was in good health. Robow told VOA Somali Service in October that he was sick.

Farey also said Robow had not met conditions for release since he had not denounced extremism. Robow surrendered to government forces in Baidoa in August 2017 and later plunged into politics.

He was cleared to run for president in South West state but was forcefully arrested and kept under house arrest since December 2018.

Nur had said the family of Robow complained to him about the health of their kin following the media interview in October.
