Mogadishu (HOL) - The Federal Government of Somalia has announced that the National Consultative Council (NCC) will convene in Mogadishu on August 21.

Government spokesman Mohamed Ibrahim Maalimuu said that the meeting would focus on preparations for the lower house elections.

"The National Consultative Council meeting will officially begin on Saturday, August 21, with the participation of regional heads of state and the Governor of Benadir. Prime Minister Roble will chair the meeting. The leaders will discuss the preparations for the parliamentary elections and discuss electoral procedures.

Regional leaders have already begun arriving in Mogadishu, with the presidents of South West, Hirshabelle, and Galmudug states landing in the capital on Thursday afternoon, while the presidents of Puntland and Jubbaland are expected to arrive in Mogadishu on Friday.

The NCC forum was initially scheduled for Thursday but was pushed back due to PM Roble's state visit to Egypt.

The NCC last met in late June, nearly a month after the May 17 Agreement was signed.
